Israeli Soldiers Disperse Protesters Near Damascus Gate

Published on May 16th, 2018 • VOA News

Israeli border police forces and Palestinian protesters clashed near Jerusalem’s Damascus Gate on Tuesday. Many protesters were removed from the plaza, and others were arrested in the nearby area. Demonstrators had gathered at the square outside the gate as part of Nakba Day Protests.
Tuesday marks the 70th anniversary of what Palestinians call “Nakba, ” or catastrophe — the uprooting of hundreds of thousands in the Mideast war over Israel’s 1948 creation. The unrest comes the day after Israeli forces killed dozens of Palestinians at a mass protest at the Gaza border, most by gunfire, and injured more than 2,700, according to Gaza health officials.
